## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO ATTAIN A PROPER CLIMB RATE AFTER TAKEOFF. FACTORS RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT ARE MISJUDGEMENT OF THE AIRCRAFT TAKEOFF WEIGHT, AND OVERCONFIDENCE IN THE ABILITY OF THE AIRCRAFT.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, takeoff
  - object - tree(s)
  - altitude - inadequate (cause)
  - overconfidence in aircraft's ability, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - proper climb rate - not attained, pilot in command (cause)
  - aircraft weight and balance - misjudged, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled
  - terrain condition - residential area

## Analysis

THE AIRCRAFT COLLIDED WITH A 60 FOOT TREE ONE-HALF MILE FROM THE DEPARTURE END OF THE RUNWAY AND CRASHED INTO A RESIDENTIAL AREA. THE OWNER/SECOND PILOT STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT REQUIRED THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE 3,000 FOOT RUNWAY TO GET AIRBORNE. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE TAKEOFF WEIGHT WAS APPROXIMATELY 2400 POUNDS. MAXIMUM GROSS WEIGHT IS 2350 POUNDS.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
