## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO COMPENSATE FOR WIND CONDITIONS AND MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. THE CROSSWIND WAS A FACTOR.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - weather condition - crosswind (contributing factor)
  - compensation for wind conditions - not performed, pilot in command (cause)
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - runway (contributing factor)
- Nose gear collapsed, landing - roll

## Analysis

WHILE LANDING IN A RIGHT CROSSWIND THE AIRPLANE VEERED TO THE RIGHT OFF THE RUNWAY AND ONTO A GRASS AREA. THE PILOT TOOK OFF AND PERFORMED A SECOND LANDING WHICH RESULTED IN THE SAME VEERING ACTION. THE SUBSEQUENT GROUND ROLL INTO THE GRASS LED TO A COLLISION WITH AN INTERSECTING RUNWAY EDGE WHICH BROKE THE NOSEWHEEL OFF THE AIRPLANE.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
