## Probable cause

A BINDING LANDING GEAR BRAKE. A FACTOR RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT WAS THE PILOT'S SUBSEQUENT INABILITY TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, takeoff - roll/run
  - landing gear,normal brake system - binding(mechanical) (cause)
  - directional control - not possible, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- Nose over, takeoff - roll/run
  - terrain condition - ditch

## Analysis

THE ACCIDENT AIRPLANE VEERED TO THE LEFT DURING A TAKEOFF GROUND RUN. THE PILOT COULD NOT CORRECT THE VEER WITH OPPOSITE CONTROL INPUTS. THE TAKEOFF WAS ABORTED AND AIRPLANE STRUCK A DITCH ADJACENT TO THE RUNWAY BEFORE THE PILOT COULD STOP THE AIRPLANE. POST ACCIDENT INSPECTION REVEALED THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR WHEEL BRAKE WAS DRAGGING.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910910038959A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910910038959A), Sep 10, 1991: Scwzer G164B, Gideon, MO, Destroyed. Lost directional control on takeoff veered off strip into ditch and burned. Evidence left brake was dragging.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
