## Probable cause

A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER FOR UNDETERMINED REASONS. A FACTOR ASSOCIATED WITH THE ACCIDENT IS SOFT TERRAIN IN THE FORCED LANDING AREA.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - mech failure/malf, cruise
  - reason for occurrence undetermined (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- In flight collision with terrain/water, landing - flare/touchdown
  - terrain condition - soft (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE PILOT REPORTED THAT WHILE OVERTAKING ANOTHER AIRPLANE INFLIGHT HE CLOSED THE THROTTLE. WHEN HE ADVANCED THE THROTTLE THE ENGINE DID NOT RESPOND. THE AIRPLANE WAS DAMAGED DURING A FORCED LANDING TO A 'LOOSE WORKED BEAN FIELD.' POST ACCIDENT INSPECTION OF THE AIRPLANE AND ENGINE FAILED TO REVEAL THE REASON FOR THE LOSS OF POWER.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910629024789A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910629024789A), Jun 29, 1991: Amtrea ACROSPORT, Columbus, KS, Substantial damage. Lost power at cruise. Forced landing in soft field.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
