## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO OBTAIN A PROPER TOUCHDOWN POINT AND HIS DELAY IN INITIATING A GO-AROUND.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, go-around (vfr)
  - proper touchdown point - not obtained, pilot in command (cause)
  - go-around - delayed, pilot in command (cause)
  - object - tree(s)

## Analysis

THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LAND THE AMATEUR BUILT AIRCRAFT ON A SHORT RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT TOUCH DOWN AT THE INTENDED TOUCHDOWN POINT AND THE PILOT INITIATED A GO-AROUND. THE AIRCRAFT FAILED TO CLEAR TREES AT THE DEPARTURE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE FAMILIAR WITH THE AIRCRAFT AND SHOULD HAVE PRACTICED MORE LANDINGS ON LONGER RUNWAYS.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19901104049259A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19901104049259A), Nov 4, 1990: Amtr AVIDFLYER, New London, WI, Substantial damage. Too fast and long for landing on short Private strip. Elected to go around too late and struck trees at runway end.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
