## Probable cause

THAT THE PILOT DID NOT PERFORM ANY PREFLIGHT PLANNING, AND DID NOT USE THE AIRCRAFT PERFORMANCE DATA.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Overrun, takeoff - roll/run
  - performance data - not used, pilot in command (cause)
  - preflight planning/preparation - not performed, pilot in command (cause)
- Loss of control - on ground/water, takeoff - roll/run
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, takeoff - roll/run

## Analysis

THE AIRPLANE RAN OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY DURING TAKEOFF FOR AN AGRICULTURAL FLIGHT AND THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED. THE PILOT STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WOULD NOT REACH TAKEOFF SPEED, AND THAT HE HAD MADE NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS WITH NEGATIVE RESULTS. HE ALSO STATED THAT HE HAD MADE NO PREFLIGHT PERFORMANCE CALCULATIONS. THE RUNWAY WAS 2,600 FOOT GRASS STRIP. DENSITY ALTITUDE WAS 3,700 FEET.

## Other investigations on N8988Q (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
