## Probable cause

THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN AIRSPEED. FACTORS CONTRIBUTING WERE THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND'S MISUSE OF FLAPS AND HIS LACK OF TOTAL EXPERIENCE IN THIS TYPE OF OPERATION.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, go-around (vfr)
  - raising of flaps - not performed, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - lack of total experience in type operation, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - airspeed - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - stall - inadvertent, pilot in command
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled
  - terrain condition - snow covered
  - terrain condition - frozen

## Analysis

THE NEWLY RATED PRIVATE PILOT MADE A LOW PASS OVER HIS PARENT'S HOME. FULL FLAPS WERE EXTENDED. WHEN A GO-AROUND WAS ATTEMPTED, FULL POWER WAS APPLIED, AND FULL FLAPS REMAINED EXTENDED. THE AIRCRAFT PITCHED UP, DEPARTED CONTROLLED FLIGHT, AND IMPACTED THE TERRAIN.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
