## Probable cause

REMEDIAL ACTION WAS DELAYED BY THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT. A FACTOR RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT WAS AN EXCESSIVE RATE OF DESCENT.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - proper descent rate - excessive, dual student (contributing factor)
  - remedial action - delayed, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)
- Nose gear collapsed, landing - roll
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll

## Analysis

THE INSTRUCTOR SAID THAT THE FLIGHT WAS TO TRAIN THE SPOUSE OF THE ACFT'S OWNER TO BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE ACFT IN CASE OF THE PILOT'S INCAPACITATION. AFTER A RELATIVELY HIGH DESCENT RATE, THE ACFT TOUCHED DOWN HARD, THEN BOUNCED BACK INTO THE AIR. THE CFI TOOK OVER THE CONTROLS, AND LANDED THE ACFT. THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED AND THE ACFT SLID TO A STOP, SUSTAINING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910405012339A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910405012339A), Apr 5, 1991: Beech 58, Wichita, KS, Substantial damage. Student allowed high sink hard landing and bounced.m CFI relanded aircraft. Nosewheel folded.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
