## Probable cause

RECOVERY FROM A BOUNCED LANDING WAS IMPROPER BY THE PILOT. FACTORS RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT WERE LACK OF RECENT EXPERIENCE BY THE PILOT.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - recovery from bounced landing - improper, pilot in command (cause)
  - lack of recent experience, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- Nose down, landing - flare/touchdown

## Analysis

THE STUDENT PILOT SAID THAT WHILE ATTEMPING TO LAND, HIT HARD, THEN BOUNCED. SHE SAID THAT SHE MUST HAVE USED FORWARD PRESSURE ON THE YOKE, AND WHEN THE AIRCRAFT CAME DOWN AGAIN THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED. THE AIRCRAFT SLID OFF THE RUNWAY NOSE DOWN. THIS WAS HER FIRST SOLO FLIGHT IN OVER 30 DAYS.

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910511015359A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910511015359A), May 11, 1991: Cessna 152, Pontiac, MI, Substantial damage. Bounced on hard landing came down on nosewheel and collapsed it under nose section. Lacked 90 day solo endorsement.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
