## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S DELAY IN ABORTING THE LANDING. A FACTOR IN THE ACCIDENT WAS HIS EXCESSIVE SPEED ON FINAL APPROACH.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with terrain/water, landing - aborted
  - airspeed - excessive, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - proper touchdown point - not obtained, pilot in command
  - terrain condition - crop
  - aborted landing - delayed, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with object, landing - aborted
  - object - tree(s)
  - climb - not possible

## Analysis

A PRIVATE PILOT LANDED LONG AND FAST ON A 2085 FOOT SOD STRIP, BOUNCED AND APPLIED POWER TO ABORT THE LANDING. THE AIRPLANE DRAGGED THROUGH CORN AND LOW TREETOPS PAST RUNWAY END, LOSING SPEED. THE AIRPLANE STALLED INTO A HIGHER TREELINE BEYOND.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
