## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO USE ADEQUATE CARBURETOR HEAT. FACTORS TO THE ACCIDENT WERE THE CARBURETOR ICING CONDITIONS AND THE WIRES.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - nonmechanical, approach
  - weather condition - carburetor icing conditions (contributing factor)
  - carburetor heat - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- In flight collision with object, descent - emergency
  - object - wire,static (contributing factor)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE PILOT SAID THAT WHILE FLYING IN AND OUT OF CLOUDS DURING AN IFR APPROACH, THE ENGINE SPUTTERED AND QUIT. AN EMERGENCY LANDING WAS ATTEMPTED ON A RURAL ROAD WHICH RESULTED IN A COLLISION WITH POWER LINES AND THE TERRAIN. POST ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION AND ENGINE RUN UP FAILED TO REVEAL THE CAUSE OF THE ENGINE FAILURE. CONDITIONS WERE CONDUCIVE FOR CARBURETOR ICING AT THE TIME.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
