## Probable cause

DIRECTIONAL CONTROL WAS NOT MAINTAINED BY THE PILOT. A FACTOR RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT WAS THE PILOT'S LACK OF TOTAL EXPERIENCE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - weather condition - gusts
  - proper touchdown point - not attained, pilot in command
  - aborted landing - initiated, pilot in command
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - lack of total experience, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
- Nose over, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE STUDENT PILOT SAID THAT AFTER TOUCHDOWN HE ENCOUNTERED A WIND GUST AND FELT HE WOULD NOT HAVE ENOUGH RUNWAY LEFT TO SAFELY STOP. HE INITIATED AN ABORTED LANDING WHICH RESULTED IN A LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL CONTROL IN FLIGHT. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A DITCH THEN ROLLED INVERTED.
