## Probable cause

DIRECTIONAL CONTROL WAS NOT MAINTAINED BY THE PILOT. A FACTOR RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT WAS LACK OF TOTAL EXPERIENCE IN TYPE OF OPERATION BY THE PILOT.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, go-around (vfr)
  - go-around - attempted, pilot in command
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - lack of total experience in type operation, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled
- Nose over, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE STUDENT PILOT SAID THAT WHILE PRACTICING SHORT FIELD TAKEOFFS AND LDGS, HE FELT HE WAS TOO LOW ON FINAL APPROACH. HE APPLIED FULL POWER FOR A GO-AROUND, BUT THE ACFT SWERVED LEFT, PITCHED NOSE DOWN, STRUCK THE TERRAIN AND NOSED OVER.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910804031419A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910804031419A), Aug 4, 1991: Cessna 152, Warrensburg, MO, Substantial damage. Practice short field landing. Too low for threshold. Tried go around nose still down. Swerved hit terrain.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
