## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S INADVERTENT LOWERING OF THE WHEELS DURING THE WATER LANDING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Nose over, landing - flare/touchdown
  - terrain condition - water
  - gear extension - inadvertent, pilot in command (cause)

## Analysis

THE PILOT INADVERTENTLY LOWERED THE LANDING WHEELS INSTEAD OF LOWERING THE FLAPS DURING THE LANDING APPROACH. THE AMPHIBIAN AIRPLANE SUBSEQUENTLY NOSED OVER UPON TOUCHDOWN ON THE ST. CROIX RIVER.

- [Accident 19910906038679A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910906038679A), Sep 6, 1991: Cessna 185F, Afton, MN, Substantial damage. Lowered gear instead of flaps for a water landing with amphibious floats. Flipped over on touchdown.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
