## Probable cause

THE PILOT COULD NOT MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AFTER ONE OF THE MAIN LANDING GEAR BRAKES JAMMED DURING A LANDING ROLL. THE OPERATOR DID NOT COMPLY WITH AN AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE ISSUED TO PREVENT A POSSIBLE BRAKING SYSTEM MALFUNCTION.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Airframe/component/system failure/malfunction, landing - roll
  - landing gear, normal brake system - jammed (cause)
  - maintenance, compliance with ad - not performed, company/operator management (cause)
- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - directional control - not possible, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - object - runway light

## Analysis

THE ACCIDENT AIRPLANE VEERED OFF THE LANDING RUNWAY AND COLLIDED WITH A TAXIWAY LIGHT. THE PILOT COULD NOT MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR BRAKE WOULD NOT RELEASE AFTER THE PILOT APPLIED IT DURING THE LANDING ROLL. A POST ACCIDENT INSPECTION OF THE AIRPLANE REVEALED AN AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE ISSUED TO PREVENT INADVERTENT LOCKUP OF THE RIGHT BRAKE HAD NOT BEEN COMPLIED WITH.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920323007329A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920323007329A), Mar 23, 1992: Scwzer G164, Malden, MO, Substantial damage. Malfunctioning parking brake locked on landing. Veered off runway. Airworthiness directive on brakes not complied.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
