## Probable cause

FAILURE OF THE PILOT TO MAINTAIN A PROPER DESCENT RATE, AND AN AIRSPEED ABOVE STALLING SPEED DURING A VFR FINAL APPROACH.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, approach - vfr pattern - final approach
  - proper descent rate - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - airspeed(vs) - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - stall - inadvertent, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE ACCIDENT AIRPLANE COLLIDED WITH TERRAIN WHILE LANDING. THE PILOT STATED HE WAS PRACTICING SHORT FIELD LANDINGS AND WAS ON SHORT FINAL APPROACH WHEN HE ALLOWED AN EXCESSIVE SINK RATE TO DEVELOP. WHEN HE ADDED POWER TO SLOW THE RATE OF SINK, THE NOSE PITCHED UP AND THE AIRPLANE STALLED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Incident 19920409009569I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920409009569I), Apr 9, 1992: Amtr S6COYOTEII, Augusta, KS, Minor damage. While attempting to land pilot stalled and contacted runway.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
