## Probable cause

THE PARTIAL LOSS OF ENGINE POWER, FOR REASONS UNDETERMINED WHICH RESULTED IN AN ABORTED TAKEOFF AND EVENTUAL OVERRUN AND LANDING GEAR COLLAPSE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Airframe/component/system failure/malfunction, takeoff
  - engine assembly - undetermined (cause)
  - abort - initiated, pilot in command
- Overrun, takeoff - aborted
  - all available runway - exceeded, pilot in command
- Gear collapsed, takeoff - aborted

## Analysis

THE PILOT OF THE AMATEUR BUILT AIRPLANE INDICATED THAT ON TAKEOFF ROLL THE ENGINE MISFIRED AND HE ABORTED THE TAKEOFF. THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE AIRPLANE ON THE REMAINING RUNWAY AND THE AIRPLANE OVERRAN THE END OF THE TAKEOFF RUNWAY. THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED DURING THE OVERRUN. A SUBSEQUENT EXAMINATION FAILED TO REVEAL THE NATURE OF THE PARTIAL POWER LOSS.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19911018047259A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19911018047259A), Oct 18, 1991: Amtres SX300, Eagle River, WI, Substantial damage. Engine sputtered on takeoff roll. Elected to abort. Ran off end runway. No defects found.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
