## Probable cause

FAILURE OF THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND TO OBTAIN A PROPER CLIMB RATE, AND HIS LACK OF TOTAL EXPEREINCE IN THE TYPE OF AIRPLANE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, takeoff - initial climb
  - proper climb rate - not obtained, pilot in command (cause)
  - lack of total experience in type of aircraft, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, landing - flare/touchdown
  - terrain condition - crop
  - unsuitable terrain or takeoff/landing/taxi area - encountered, pilot in command

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED THAT DURING THE INITIAL CLIMB PHASE HE WAS UNABLE TO ESTABLISH A SATISFACTORY POSITIVE CLIMB RATE; ALTHOUGH, HE INDICATED EXPERIENCING NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. HE ELECTED TO LAND THE AIRPLANE AND DURING THE LANDING COLLIDED WITH THE CROP. A POST ACCIDENT EXAMINATION OF THE AIRPLANE FAILED TO REVEAL ANY MECHANICAL MALFUNCTIONS WHICH WOULD HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE ACCIDENT.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920902034999A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920902034999A), Sep 2, 1992: Amtr AVIDFLYER, Shiocton, WI, Substantial damage. Unable to climb after takeoff. Elected to land in cabbage patch. Gear severed on impact with cabbage heads.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
