## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL DURING THE LANDING ROLL.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Gear collapsed, landing - roll
  - weather condition - tailwind
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - ground loop/swerve - inadvertent, pilot in command
- Main gear collapsed, landing - roll
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED '...DURING THE ROLLOUT WITH THE TAILWHEEL ON THE GROUND THE AIRCRAFT BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE AND TURNED TO THE RIGHT.' THE AIRCRAFT TURNED ABOUT 270 DEGREES BEFORE IT CAME TO A STOP. THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED DURING THE TURN. THE PILOT LANDED ON RUNWAY 13. THE WINDS WERE REPORTED TO BE OUT OF 340 DEGREES AT 7 TO 8 KNOTS. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF PRE-EXISTING MECHANICAL ANOMALY.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920809029759A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920809029759A), Aug 9, 1992: Amtrhy SNS7, Alexandria, MN, Substantial damage. Swerved on landing. Side load collapsed left main gear and aircraft ground looped damaging wing.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
