## Probable cause

THE PILOT IN COMMAND'S FAILURE TO ATTAIN A PROPER FLARE ON LANDING. A FACTOR CONTRIBUTING TO THE ACCIDENT WAS THE PILOT IN COMMAND'S INADVERTENT ENCOUNTER WITH INSTRUMENT METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight encounter with weather, cruise - normal
  - preflight planning/preparation - poor, pilot in command
  - weather condition - low ceiling
  - vfr flight into imc - inadvertent, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - terrain condition - rough/uneven
  - flare - not attained, pilot in command (cause)
- Nose gear collapsed, landing - flare/touchdown

## Analysis

DURING CRUISE FLIGHT IMC CONDITIONS WERE ENCOUNTERED. THE PILOT ELECTED TO MAKE A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING IN A FIELD. ON LANDING THE NOSE LANDING GEAR STRUCK FIRST. THE NOSE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED AND THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE TERRAIN.
