## Probable cause

WATER IN THE FUEL, AND AN INADEQUATE PREFLIGHT BY THE PILOT.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - nonmechanical, approach
  - fluid,fuel - water (cause)
  - aircraft preflight - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- In flight collision with object, landing
  - object - tree(s)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE PILOT SAID THAT AFTER BEING CLEARED FOR AN IFR APPROACH, THE ENGINE LOST POWER. DURING AN EMERGENCY LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A TREE AND LOST PART OF THE RIGHT WING. THE AIRCRAFT THEN SLID TO A STOP WITH NO INJURIES TO THE PILOT OR PASSENGER. A POST-ACCIDENT EXAMINATION REVEALED THE PRESENCE OF WATER IN THE FLOW DIVIDER WHICH (BY THAT TIME) HAD FROZEN.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19911205054639A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19911205054639A), Dec 5, 1991: Beech B36TC, Mount Pleasant, MI, Substantial damage. Lost engine power on appraoch. Forced landing. Hit tree in wooded area. Water frozen in fuel flow divided.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
