## Probable cause

IMPROPER STARTING PROCEDURE ATTEMPTED BY THE PILOT. A FACTOR RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT WAS: MAGNETO SWITCH LEFT IN THE 'ON' POSITION.

## Analysis

UNABLE TO START THE ENGINES WITH THE BATTERY, THE PILOT DEPLANED THE AIRPLANE TO PULL THE PROPELLERS THROUGH BY HAND. THE LEFT ENGINE STARTED WHEN THE PILOT PULLED THE PROPELLER THROUGH. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO ENTER THE AIRPLANE TO SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE BUT WAS UNABLE TO. THE AIRPLANE TRAVELED IN SEVERAL CIRCLES PRIOR TO CONTACTING A GOLF CART AND COMING TO A STOP. POST ACCIDENT INSPECTION REVEALED THE MAGNETOS WERE LEFT IN THE 'ON' POSITION WHEN THE PILOT PULLED THROUGH THE PROPELLERS.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Incident 19920206002119I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920206002119I), Feb 6, 1992: Beech 95B55, Chicago/Wheelin, IL, Substantial damage. Pulled prop through to enhance starting. Engine started. Aircraft struck a golf cart. Pilot had left mags on.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
