## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN AN ADEQUATE APPROACH SPEED WHICH RESULTED IN AN IMPROPER FLARE. FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO THE ACCIDENT WERE THE INADEQUATE INFLIGHT DEICING OF THE AIRFRAME SURFACES AND IN ICING CONDITIONS ENCOUNTERED.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - weather condition - icing conditions (contributing factor)
  - airspeed - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - flare - not attained, pilot in command
  - landing gear,main gear - collapsed
  - ice/frost removal from aircraft - inadequate, pilot in command (contributing factor)

## Analysis

A HARD LANDING WAS MADE WHICH RESULTED IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE. POST ACCIDENT INSPECTION REVEALED THE AIRFRAME HAD ACCUMULATED ICE ON MOST OF THE LEADING EDGE SURFACES. THE SECOND PILOT STATED THE PIC ALLOWED THE AIRSPEED TO DECAY DURING THE FINAL APPROACH SEGMENT.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
