## Probable cause

THE CFI PILOT-IN-COMMAND'S FAILURE TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE SUPERVISION OF A DUAL STUDENT. A FACTOR CONTRIBUTING TO THE ACCIDENT WAS THE STUDENT PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN AIRSPEED.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - light condition - dark night
  - airspeed - not maintained, dual student (contributing factor)
  - stall - inadvertent, dual student
  - supervision - inadequate, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)
- Main gear collapsed, landing - flare/touchdown
  - landing gear,main gear attachment - overload

## Analysis

A PRIVATE RATED DUAL STUDENT WAS RECEIVING NIGHT INSTRUCTION. DURING A SIMULATED FORCED LANDING THE AIRPLANE LANDED HARD AND THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED. THE AIRPLANE SLID TO A STOP IN A TREE LINE. THE INSTRUCTOR STATED, '... STALLED THE AIRPLANE ABOUT 10 FEET OR SO CAUSING THE AIRPLANE TO HIT HARD ON THE RIGHT MAIN, BREAKING IT OFF.'

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
