## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN THE PROPER ALTITUDE DURING THE FINAL APPROACH TO LANDING. A FACTOR IN THE ACCIDENT WAS THE PILOT'S DELAYED REMEDIAL ACTION.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Undershoot, approach - vfr pattern - final approach
  - proper altitude - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - remedial action - delayed, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- In flight collision with object, approach - vfr pattern - final approach
  - object - wire,transmission

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED THAT DURING FINAL APPROACH SHE ENCOUNTERED A 'POCKET OF AIR' THAT CAUSED THE BACK OF THE AIRPLANE TO SINK RAPIDLY. THE AIRPLANE STRUCK POWER LINES AFTER THE PILOT INITIATED A RECOVERY.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920404008819A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920404008819A), Apr 4, 1992: Cessna 150F, Centralia, IL, Substantial damage. On final for runway struck wires and crashed. Student blamed downdraft. CFI claims VASI too low. Not to be used.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
