## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN AIRCRAFT CONTROL. A FACTOR IN THE ACCIDENT WAS THE PILOT'S LACK OF EXPERIENCE IN AIRCRAFT TYPE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, takeoff - roll/run
  - terrain condition - loose gravel/sandy
  - aircraft control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - lack of total experience in type of aircraft, pilot in command (contributing factor)

## Analysis

A TAILWHEEL AIRPLANE GROUNDLOOPED DURING TAKEOFF FROM A GRAVEL ROAD. THE PRIVATE PILOT STATED A MAIN GEAR HIT A BUMP NEAR LIFTOFF SPEED, AND HE LOST CONTROL. THE PILOT CHECKED OUT IN TYPE A YEAR EARLIER ON A ONE HOUR FLIGHT AND HAD ABOUT TWO HOURS IN TYPE SINCE THEN.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920408009299A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920408009299A), Apr 8, 1992: Maule M7235, Garnavillo, IA, Substantial damage. Lost control on a bump while taking off on gravel road. Ground looped off road. Tailwheel check out 1 year earlier.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
