## Probable cause

THE STUDENT PILOT'S IMPROPER RECOVERY FROM A BOUNCED LANDING, AND THE INSTRUCTOR'S INADEQUATE REMEDIAL ACTION(S).

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, landing - aborted
  - recovery from bounced landing - improper, dual student (cause)
  - remedial action - inadequate, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)
  - control interference - continued, dual student (contributing factor)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT PILOT WERE PRACTICING LANDINGS. THE STUDENT BOUNCED ONE LANDING AND 'FROZE' ON THE CONTROLS. WHEN THE STUDENT DID RELEASE THE YOKE, HE KEPT FULL LEFT RUDDER DEPRESSED. HE EVENTUALLY RELEASED THE RUDDER, BUT THE INSTRUCTOR WAS UNABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE BEFORE STRIKING THE GROUND.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920513014789A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920513014789A), May 13, 1992: Cessna 150L, Olathe, KS, Substantial damage. Bounced on landing. Student panicked and froze. Full left rudder right aileron. CFI unable to regain control.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
