## Probable cause

DELAY IN ABORTING THE LANDING BY THE PILOT IN COMMAND.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - object - fence
  - aborted landing - delayed, pilot in command (cause)

## Analysis

THE PILOT LANDED ON A GRASS RUNWAY 1,900 FEET LONG, WHICH WAS WET, AND SLOPED DOWNHILL. PILOT ATTEMPTED TO ABORT THE LANDING WHEN IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT GOING TO STOP BEFORE HITTING A SPLIT RAIL FENCE AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT CLEAR THE SPLIT RAIL FENCE, AND TRAVELLED AN ADDITIONAL 600 FEET, HIT A SECOND SPLIT RAIL FENCE, AND CAME TO A STOP.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920519015459A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920519015459A), May 19, 1992: Cessna 172M, Climax Springs, MO, Substantial damage. Unable to stop on wet grass runway. Began belated go around and struck two fences prior stopping.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
