## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN AIRSPEED ABOVE A STALL.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, maneuvering
  - aerobatics - performed, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - stall/spin - inadvertent, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled
  - terrain condition - open field

## Analysis

A PRIVATE PILOT GAVE AIRPORT BYSTANDERS RIDES IN HIS NEWLY PURCHASED AIRPLANE. WITNESSES' DESCRIPTION OF THE FINAL MANEUVER ARE CONSISTENT WITH ENTRY FOR A LOOP OR IMMELMAN. THE AIRPLANE CLIMBED TO THE INVERTED POSITION, FELL OUT OF THE MANEUVER, AND TURNED TWICE COUNTERCLOCKWISE BEFORE GROUND COLLISION.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920704023479A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920704023479A), Jul 4, 1992: Luscom 8E, Napoleon, ND, Destroyed, 2 fatal. Steep pullup to inverted flight at low altitude. Then dived into ground.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
