## Probable cause

INADEQUATE MAINTENANCE SERVICE AND AIRCRAFT PREFLIGHT BY THE PILOT. A FACTOR CONTRIBUTING TO THIS ACCIDENT WAS A PARTIAL FAILURE OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Airframe/component/system failure/malfunction, takeoff - aborted
  - landing gear,normal brake system - failure,partial (contributing factor)
  - maintenance, service of aircraft/equipment - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - aircraft preflight - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
- Overrun, takeoff - aborted
- On ground/water collision with object, takeoff - aborted
  - object - tree(s)
  - object - fence post

## Analysis

THE PILOT WAS PERFORMING A NIGHT TAKEOFF WHEN THE COCKPIT ENTRANCE DOOR OPENED. THE PILOT STATED HE WAS UNABLE TO CLOSE THE DOOR AND DECIDED TO ABORT THE TAKEOFF. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, THE BRAKES DID NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY DURING HIS ATTEMPT TO STOP THE AIRPLANE. THE AIRPLANE DEPARTED THE DEPARTURE END OF THE RUNWAY AND COLLIDED WITH TREES AND FENCE POSTS. AN ON-SCENE INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM WAS MECHANICALLY SOUND. THE BRAKE SYSTEM HYDRAULIC FLUID RESERVOIR WAS FOUND EMPTY OF FLUID. EVIDENCE OF LEAKING BRAKE FLUID ON THE AIRFRAME AND LANDING GEAR LEG WAS NOT OBSERVED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920727027639A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920727027639A), Jul 27, 1992: Beech H35, Baraboo, WI, Substantial damage. Cabin door came open on liftoff. Tried close then began belated abort. Over heated brakes faded lacked brake fluid

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
