## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S IMPROPER USE OF THE AIRPLANES BRAKES.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Nose over, landing - roll
  - brakes(normal) - improper use of, pilot in command (cause)

## Analysis

THE AIRPLANE WAS CLOSE TO THE CONCLUSION OF ITS LANDING ROLL ON THE SOD RUNWAY WHEN IT NOSED OVER AND BECAME INVERTED. INITIALLY, THE PILOT COULD NOT RECALL WHAT HE DID THAT WOULD CAUSE THE AIRPLANE TO NOSE OVER. NEAR THE CONCLUSION OF THE INTERVIEW WITH THE PILOT HE STATED THAT HE MAY HAVE TAPPED THE BRAKES AND DIDN'T HAVE ANY ELEVATOR BACK PRESSURE APPLIED, BUT HE WASN'T SURE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920818031869A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920818031869A), Aug 18, 1992: Cessna 140, Chillicothe, MO, Substantial damage. Nosed over near end of landing roll. Pilot states he may have hit brakes.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
