## Probable cause

THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND'S IMPROPER SELECTION OF FUEL TANK RESULTING IN FUEL STARVATION. A FACTOR WAS THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND'S ENCOUNTER WITH UNSUITABLE TERRAIN.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(partial) - nonmechanical, cruise - normal
  - fluid,fuel - starvation
  - fuel tank selector position - improper, pilot in command (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - flare/touchdown
  - terrain condition - rough/uneven
  - unsuitable terrain or takeoff/landing/taxi area - encountered, pilot in command (contributing factor)

## Analysis

DURING NORMAL CRUISE THE AIRPLANE EXPERIENCED A PARTIAL LOSS OF POWER. THE PILOT INDICATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE AND SELECTED A FIELD FOR AN EMERGENCY LANDING. DURING TOUCHDOWN THE AIRPLANE IMPACTED THE TERRAIN. SUBSEQUENT TO THE ACCIDENT NO USABLE FUEL WAS FOUND IN THE FUEL TANK SELECTED.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
