## Probable cause

INADEQUATE COMPENSATION FOR WIND CONDITIONS BY THE PILOT IN COMMAND AND FAILURE TO ATTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE DURING LANDING FLARE AND TOUCHDOWN.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, landing - flare/touchdown
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - directional control - not attained, pilot in command (cause)
  - lack of total experience, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - object - runway light
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - ditch
- Nose over, landing - roll

## Analysis

THE PILOT OF THE ACCIDENT AIRPLANE WAS PRACTICING CROSSWIND TOUCH AND GO LANDINGS. THE PILOT STATED HE HAD DIFFICULTY MAINTAINING RUNWAY ALIGNMENT AS HE CROSSED THE RUNWAY THRESHOLD DURING THE FIFTH TOUCH AND GO. DURING THE LANDING FLARE THE AIRPLANE BALLOONED SEVERAL TIMES AND TOUCHED DOWN TO THE RIGHT OF THE RUNWAY CENTERLINE. THE AIRPLANE WENT OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND COLLIDED WITH A RUNWAY LIGHT. IT CHANGED DIRECTION AND CROSSED THE RUNWAY AGAIN WHERE IT COLLIDED WITH A DITCH AND NOSED OVER.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19921011045289A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19921011045289A), Oct 11, 1992: Cessna 150M, Romeo, MI, Substantial damage. Ballooned landing without throttle at idle. Lost control, veered off both sides runway and nosed over in a ditch.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
