## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN AIRCRAFT CONTROL.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, maneuvering
  - aircraft control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - stall - inadvertent, pilot in command
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE PILOT, WHO HELPED RESTORE THE VINTAGE AIRPLANE, REQUESTED TO FLY IT BEFORE THE OWNERS SOLD IT TO SOMEONE ELSE. HE LAST FLEW THE AIRPLANE A YEAR EARLIER. AFTER ORBITING THE FIELD, HE FLEW A MILE AWAY AND BEGAN A SPIRAL TO DESCEND FOR A STRAIGHT-IN APPROACH. A WITNESS OBSERVED THE WINGS ROCK AND THE NOSE COME UP TO A STALL. THE AIRPLANE FELL OFF ON ONE SIDE AND DESCENDED TO GROUND COLLISION.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19921023044019A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19921023044019A), Oct 23, 1992: Roos 101ROOS, New Hudson, MI, Destroyed, 1 fatal. Maneuvering near airport. Spiralled down, recovered. Wings rocked. Aircraft stalled. PIC had marked arteriosclerois.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
