## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO PROPERLY ALIGN THE AIRCRAFT WITH THE LANDING AREA.

## Sequence of events

  - window,flight compartment window/windshield - ice
  - visual lookout - restricted
- In flight collision with terrain/water, landing - flare/touchdown
  - weather condition - snow
  - airport facilities,runway/landing area condition - snow covered
  - proper alignment - not attained, pilot in command (cause)
  - visual/aural detection, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - terrain condition - snowbank
- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown

## Analysis

THE FLIGHT ENCOUNTERED ICING AT CRUISE, AND ICE REMAINED ON A PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD DURING THE PILOT'S APPROACH. A LIGHT SNOW WAS FALLING, AND THE FIELD AND RUNWAY WERE SNOW-COVERED. THE LEFT MAIN GEAR TOUCHED DOWN IN A SNOWBANK ON THE LEFT EDGE OF THE RUNWAY.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930126000899A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930126000899A), Jan 26, 1993: Cessna 310R, Minocqua/Woodru, WI, Substantial damage. Loaded with ice including windshield except for heated area. Experienced whiteout and hit snowbank on landing.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
