## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S INADEQUATE COMPENSATION FOR VARIABLE WIND CONDITIONS DURING LANDING. THE CROSSWIND WAS A FACTOR.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - weather condition - crosswind (contributing factor)
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command
- Nose over, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - snowbank

## Analysis

THE PILOT REPORTED HE LANDED ON RUNWAY 36 WITH WINDS OUT OF 270 DEGREES AT 10 KNOTS. HE STATED AFTER TOUCHDOWN THE AIRCRAFT VEERED OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE AIRSTRIP WHERE IT STRUCK A SNOWBANK AND NOSED OVER. THE PILOT STATED '...THE TREE FENCE AND HANGARS CAUSES (SIC) WIND TO E VERY VARIABLE ON STRIP.

## Other investigations on N3571V (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA05LA026](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA05LA026), Dec 6, 2004: Cessna 140 (N3571V), Spanaway, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudgment of distance/altitude during final approach to land which resulted in an undershoot and in flight collision with a fence. A factor was the pilot's alcohol impairment.
