## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO ABORT THE TAKEOFF WHEN THE AIRPLANE FIRST TOUCHED DOWN ON THE CLEAR AREA ADJACENT TO THE DEPARTURE RUNWAY.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, takeoff - initial climb
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - aborted takeoff - not performed, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water collision with object, takeoff - roll/run
  - object - fence
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, takeoff - roll/run

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED THAT SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF HE ENCOUNTERED A GUSTY CROSSWIND CONDITION AND THE AIRPLANE DRIFTED TO THE RIGHT OF THE RUNWAY, TOUCHING DOWN ON THE ADJACENT CLEAR AREA. HE SAID THE AIRPLANE BECAME AIRBORNE ONCE AGAIN WITH THE STALL WARNING HORN ACTIVATED AND THEN TOUCHED DOWN ON A ROAD WHICH WAS PERPENDICULAR TO THE DEPARTURE RUNWAY. THE AIRPLANE'S PATH CONTINUED ON THE GROUND, THROUGH A FENCE, AND ONTO A FIELD DESCRIBED AS A PASTURE.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
