## Probable cause

PILOT IN COMMAND FAILED TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with terrain/water, takeoff - initial climb
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - terrain condition - water

## Analysis

FOLLOWING A THREE-POINT LANDING, THE PILOT ADDED POWER FOR ANOTHER TAKEOFF IN A LIGHT CROSSWIND, AND BECAME AIRBORNE IN A SLIGHT RIGHT BANK. THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AND HIS RIGHT WING TIP STRUCK THE WATER IN A NEARBY LAKE SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGING THE AIRCRAFT AND CAUSING IT TO TURN 180 DEGREES FROM ITS INTENDED HEADING AS IT CAME TO REST.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930425018819A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930425018819A), Apr 25, 1993: Bbavia 7GCBA, Duluth, MN, Substantial damage. Lost directional control landing, began go around. Wing stalled in right climbing turn. Struck water and cartwheeled

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
