## Analysis

THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE WAS IN THE TRAFFIC PATTERN PREPARING TO LAND, AND WHEN 'ABEAM THE NUMBERS THERE WAS A MOMENTARY POWER LOSS . . . AUX FUEL PUMP TO HIGH POSITION, POWER AND FUEL FLOW WERE REGAINED. ABOUT ON BASE A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER WAS SUSTAINED . . . I WENT STRAIGHT FOR THE RUNWAY BUT WE CAME UP SHORT . . . .' THE AIRPLANE STRUCK FIVE PARKED TRUCKS BEFORE IT CAME TO A STOP. A POST-ACCIDENT EXAMINATION WAS MADE, BUT NO PREIMPACT MECHANICAL MALFUNCTION WAS FOUND.

## Factual narrative

On April 30, 1993, at 0822 central daylight time, a Cessna U206F airplane, N50963, experienced a loss of engine power while on short final approach for Runway 31 at Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The airplane was destroyed when it crashed in a parking lot. The pilot and one passenger reported minor injuries. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the business flight, no flight plan was filed. The flight originated from Brainerd, Minnesota, at 0620.

The pilot stated they departed a private airstrip in Brainerd with an intended destination of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Weather information obtained enroute indicated that instrument meteorological conditions prevailed at Grand Rapids. The pilot stated he elected to land at Oshkosh "...to wait for the fog to lift." He reported when the airplane was abeam the numbers for Runway 31 there was a "...momentary loss of manifold pressure and loss of fuel flow. Upon pushing the AUX fuel pump to high position, power and fuel flow were regained." When the airplane was on base leg, there was a total loss of engine power. The pilot stated: "I went straight for the runway but we came up short in the Oshkosh Trucking Company's parking lot." The airplane struck 5 parked vehicles during the crash sequence. Postaccident examination revealed no evidence of preimpact mechanical malfunction (see attached FAA Inspector statements).

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
