## Probable cause

THE PILOT IN COMMAND'S INADEQUATE PREFLIGHT PLANNING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - nonmechanical, descent - normal
  - fluid,fuel - exhaustion (contributing factor)
  - preflight planning/preparation - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - fluid,fuel - contamination
- Nose over, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - soft (contributing factor)

## Analysis

FOLLOWING NORMAL DESCENT, THE AIRCRAFT'S ENGINE LOST ALL POWER. DURING AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A NEARBY CUT CORN FIELD, THE WHEELS BECAME BURIED IN THE MUD, AND THE AIRPLANE NOSED OVER. ONLY A FEW TABLESPOONS OF FUEL MIXED WITH WATER WERE FOUND IN THE FUEL TANKS UPON INSPECTION. ENGINE STARTED AND RAN UNTIL IT RAN OUT OF FUEL DURING INVESTIGATION.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930425014489A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930425014489A), Apr 25, 1993: Cessna 150D, Lake Village, IN, Substantial damage. Engine quit descending for destination. Nosed over in muddy cut cornfield. Few ounces mogas and water in tanks.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
