## Probable cause

A PARTIAL LOSS OF ENGINE POWER FOR UNDETERMINED REASONS.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(partial) - nonmechanical, takeoff - roll/run
  - reason for occurrence undetermined (cause)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, takeoff - aborted
  - terrain condition - dirt bank/rising embankment

## Analysis

WHILE MAKING A TAKEOFF FROM A LAKE, THE PILOT THOUGHT THAT THE AMPHIBIAN AIRPLANE WAS NOT DEVELOPING TAKEOFF POWER AND ATTEMPTED TO ABORT THE TAKEOFF. THE AIRPLANE IMPACTED A GRASSY MOUND DURING THE ABORTED TAKEOFF. AFTER THE AIRPLANE CAME TO A REST THE PILOT FOUND THAT THE THROTTLE WAS SET FULLY OPEN. A POST-ACCIDENT EXAMINATION OF THE AIRPLANE FAILED TO REVEAL ANY MECHANICAL ANOMALIES.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930516013949A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930516013949A), May 16, 1993: Conaer LA4200, Springport, MI, Substantial damage. Beleived not normal power on water takeoff. Aborted late and struck a grassy mound. No defects found.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
