## Probable cause

THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER DUE TO A JAMMED CARBURETOR FLOAT AND THE INABILITY OF THE PILOT TO MAINTAIN CLEARANCE DURING THE EMERGENCY LANDING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - mech failure/malf, descent - normal
  - fuel system,carburetor float - jammed (cause)
  - fuel system,line fitting - stripped thread
- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - object - vehicle
  - clearance - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - object - pole

## Analysis

THE PILOT DEPARTED FROM FLYING CLOUD AIRPORT TO CHECK FOR SATISFACTORY OIL PRESSURE INDICATIONS AT NORMAL CRUISE POWER TEMPERATURE. APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT, THE PILOT BEGAN A SLOW DESCENT BACK TO FLYING CLOUD AIRPORT. THE PILOT STATED THAT APPROXIMATELY 30 SECONDS AFTER REDUCING ENGINE POWER FROM FULL POWER TO 2500 RPM, THE ENGINE LOST ALL POWER. THE PILOT ELECTED TO PERFORM AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON A GRAVEL ROAD. AS THE PILOT TRIED TO AVOID A VEHICLE PARKED ON THE ROAD, HE STRUCK A TELEPHONE POLE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930623019929A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930623019929A), Jun 23, 1993: Beech B19, Minneapolis, MN, Substantial damage. Engine lost power on maintenance test flight. Hit pole landing on road. Threads from carb inlet line blocked fuel.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
