## Probable cause

THE PILOT IN COMMAND'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, taxi - to takeoff
  - weather condition - tailwind
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - lack of total experience, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, taxi - to takeoff
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - ground loop/swerve - uncontrolled, pilot in command (contributing factor)

## Analysis

WHILE TAXIING WITH THE WIND, THE PILOT 'EXPERIENCED RAPID ACCELERATION AND REDUCED POWER TO SLOW THE AIRCRAFT. THE WIND SHIFTED TO OUT OF NORTHWEST, LIFTING THE LEFT WING AND LEFT MAIN GEAR.' THE AIRCRAFT WAS BLOWN ONTO THE GRASS ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE RUNWAY WHERE IT INSTANTLY WEATHERVANED. THE PILOT SAID WITH THE AIRCRAFT'S 'MOMENTUM STILL IN THE 10 DEGREE HEADING, THE AIRCRAFT HOPPED SIDEWAYS ON ITS GEAR, DAMAGING THE AIRCRAFT.'

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930627021909A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930627021909A), Jun 27, 1993: Bbavia 7ECA, Moriarty, NM, Substantial damage. Lost control in gusty wind while taxiing for takeoff ran off runway skided sideway twisted fuselage and gear.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
