## Probable cause

THE PILOT IN COMMAND'S DELAYED IN-FLIGHT DECISION. A FACTOR TO THE ACCIDENT IS THE PILOT IN COMMAND'S FAILURE TO ATTAIN A PROPER TOUCHDOWN POINT.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with terrain/water, landing - aborted
  - object - other
  - proper touchdown point - not attained, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - terrain condition - grass
  - in-flight planning/decision - delayed, pilot in command (cause)
- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - aborted
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command
  - ground loop/swerve - inadvertent, pilot in command

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED THAT AFTER FLARING THE AIRCRAFT FOR A GRASS STRIP LANDING THE AIRPLANE 'DIDN'T TOUCH DOWN FOR A LONG TIME.' THE OTHER PILOT ABOARD TOLD THE PILOT TO 'GO AROUND,' AND THE PILOT ADDED POWER. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT CLIMB IMMEDIATELY, AND 'HIT THE TAXIWAY FOR RUNWAY 13-31. THE AIRCRAFT GROUND LOOPED AND CAME TO REST IN A DITCH ALONGSIDE RUNWAY 13-31.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930727025759A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930727025759A), Jul 27, 1993: Piper PA28R201, Crookston, MN, Substantial damage. Landed with quartering tail wind on soft sod runway. Hit concrete lip of paved runway 13 taxiway. Collapsed gear.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
