## Probable cause

the pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the landing. Contributing factors include the high airspeed, the improper recovery from a bounced landing, the crosswind, and the soft dirt.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - airspeed - high, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - recovery from bounced landing - improper, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - weather condition - crosswind (contributing factor)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - soft (contributing factor)
- Nose over, landing - roll

## Analysis

According to the pilot, he had "excessive airspeed" when he touched down, bounced back into the air, and encountered a crosswind that "blew [him] off the right side of runway" 28. The airplane's landing gear became stuck in the sand and the airplane nosed over causing substantial damage. Winds reported at the approximate time of the accident were 300 degrees at 10 knots.

## Factual narrative

According to the pilot, he had "excessive airspeed" when he touched down, bounced back into the air, and encountered a crosswind that "blew [him] off the right side of runway" 28. The airplane landing gear became stuck in the sand and the airplane nosed over. The vertical stabilizer was wrinkled, the rudder was crushed, and the right wing was wrinkled. Winds reported at the approximate time of the accident were 300 degrees at 10 knots. The pilot estimated the winds to be 240 degrees at 10 knots with gusts to 20 knots.
