## Probable cause

The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during landing resulting in a ground loop.

## Analysis

During the landing roll the pilot noticed the airplane was too far to the left of center line. He applied full right rudder and the airplane ground looped, impacting a snow bank, and causing substantial damage. An examination of the airplane systems revealed no anomalies.

## Factual narrative

According to the pilot, he landed the airplane on runway 17R (7,004 feet by 77 feet, asphalt) and noticed it was too far to the left of center line. He applied full right rudder and the airplane ground looped, impacting a snow bank. The right aileron and elevator were bent and broken. An examination of the airplane systems revealed no anomalies.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 20070128000769A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/20070128000769A), Jan 28, 2007: Aviat A1B, Denver, CO, Minor damage. (-23) Upon landing runway 17R at apa the aircraft drifted to the left and slid into a snow bank. Minor damage to right wing tip fabric cover. (-23 amendment)…

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
