## Probable cause

A FAILURE ON THE PART OF THE PILOT IN COMMAND TO MAINTAIN ADEQUATE TERRAIN CLEARANCE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with terrain/water, maneuvering - aerial application
  - terrain condition - ditch
  - altitude - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
- Forced landing, maneuvering - turn to landing area (emergency)
- Main gear collapsed, landing

## Analysis

WHILE CONDUCTING A SWATH RUN DURING AGRICUTURAL CHEMICAL APPLICATION, THE PILOT FAILED TO MAINTAIN CLEARANCE FROM TERRAIN AND COLLIDED WITH A DITCH.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900820034349A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900820034349A), Aug 20, 1990: Cessna A188B, Yuma, AZ, Substantial damage. Struck an erosion ditch during a spray run severing right main gear and ground looped. Engine was at full power.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
