## Probable cause

ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO FAILURE OF THE GAS PRODUCER AND POWER TURBINE ASSEMBLIES. A FACTOR IN THE ACCIDENT WAS THE LACK OF SUITABLE TERRAIN FOR THE FORCED LANDING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - mech failure/malf, descent - normal
  - turboshaft engine,gas generator turbine - failure,total (cause)
  - turboshaft engine,free(power) turbine - failure,total (cause)
  - compressor assembly,spacer - failure,total
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - roadway/highway (contributing factor)
  - object - tree(s)

## Analysis

WHEN POWER WAS REDUCED TO BEGIN INITIAL DESCENT FOR APPROACH AND LANDING THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND THE PILOT PERFORMED A FORCED LANDING ON A ROAD. THE ROAD HAD A 4% UPGRADE AND CURVED TO THE RIGHT. DURING THE ROLLOUT THE OUTBOARD END OF THE RIGHT WING STRUCK A TREE DAMAGING THE WING CARRY THROUGH SPAR. METALLURGICAL TESTING REVEALED THE CAUSE OF THE POWER LOSS TO BE FAILURE OF THE GAS PRODUCER TURBINE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900727028819A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900727028819A), Jul 27, 1990: Cessna 208A, Ruidoso, NM, Substantial damage. Lost engine torque and high TIT. Landed on a road. Left wing hit a tree. Compressor and tubine blades overstressed

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
