## Probable cause

POWER LOSS DUE TO FUEL EXHAUSTION. A FACTOR WAS THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO REFUEL.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - nonmechanical, descent - normal
  - fluid,fuel - exhaustion (cause)
  - refueling - not performed, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
  - unsuitable terrain or takeoff/landing/taxi area - selected, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - object - tree(s)
  - terrain condition - rough/uneven

## Analysis

THE PRIVATE PILOT FLEW 4.5 HOURS WITHOUT REFUELING. DURING DESCENT FOR LANDING, THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE INVESTIGATION REVEALED ONLY A TRACE OF FUEL IN ONE TANK. AN ENGINE RUN WAS NORMAL. MAGNETOS CHECKED OK AND MAXIMUM POWER OBTAINED WAS 2300 RPM.

- [Accident 19900623022079A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900623022079A), Jun 23, 1990: Cessna 150F, Bountiful, UT, Substantial damage. Ran out of fuel on short local flight. Trying to land on a road struck a tree.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
