## Probable cause

A FAILURE OF THE THROTTLE SYSTEM WHICH PREVENTED THE PILOT FROM ACHIEVING SUFFICIENT POWER TO MAINTAIN FLIGHT. A FACTOR WAS: THE ROUGH TERRAIN.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(partial) - mech failure/malf, approach - vfr pattern - final approach
  - throttle/power lever,linkage - failure,partial (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
  - terrain condition - open field
  - terrain condition - rough/uneven (contributing factor)
- Gear collapsed, landing - roll

## Analysis

WHILE CONDUCTING A VISUAL APPROACH, THE PILOT WAS REQUIRED TO PERFORM A SPACING TURN DUE TO OTHER TRAFFIC. WHEN HE ADDED POWER, THE ENGINE FAILED TO RESPOND WHICH NECESSITATED A FORCED LANDING IN A FIELD WHICH WAS ROUGH AND UNEVEN.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910728030109A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910728030109A), Jul 28, 1991: Amtr FIN1, Albuquerque, NM, Destroyed. Unable to add power to make 360 on approach. Crashed off airport. Throttle cable restraint came loose.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
